About Jo

For the last fifteen years I have been painting my immediate surroundings. I live in a beautiful rural area with cross country skiing trails and nearby farms. So it is not hard to find inspiration from nature. Each year I find a new subject to fixate on.

In 2009 it was cakes and cupcakes. I baked them and painted them endlessly. Nearby Montpelier has excellent bakeries so when I needed more professional looking subjects I found them easily. After painting them I would eat them with some Green Mountain Coffee which provided a perfect ending to a winter day.

The year before that I painted family portraits of myself and my daughter.

I find I really need to work long and hard on a subject before I can move on. This year it has been all about trees and shadows. This is useful both as a winter and summer subject. Each tree seems to have it's own shape and I imagine personality too. Some look friendly and some honestly look hostile. But altogether when the leaves come out they blend into a friendly community. I don't know how long I will be working on trees and the roads they frame. I do know that next year at this time I will be working on something completely new. That is where the fun it for me.

The town of Adamant is a wonderful place to live and work. There are so many talented people here.
We all center around the Adamant co-op where we by groceries daily and catch up on the local news.
Tom, my husband is also in the arts. He is a musician. He is currently playing with the Woods Tea Company.
Our daughter Emily lives in Burlington Vermont. She is also a visual artist.
