Taryn Day, artist and teacher said, Whether Jo Mackenzie paints peonies, celebration cakes, portraits of loved pets or peaceful interiors, she shows a happy facility with the spontaneity of watercolor. Her paintings are at once lively and full of heart, her pure-hearted appreciation of life’s daily pleasures infectiously appealing". tarynday.com
Kathy H said" I am sure I’ll want to come back for follow-up lessons, but first plan to spend some time practicing what you’ve shown me so far (and continue working on my drawing skills). You’re a good teacher, and what a breakthrough your techniques are for me. Many, many thanks."
"Artist and Author Patti Mollica said "Awesome Jo . I don't know watercolors at all but will now enjoy learning from you"
Though I deeply felt an affinity with water colors and had taken classes for a few years, I
knew my technique would benefit from one-on-one coaching to mix colors and plan the steps
for a composition. So, last summer I signed up for coaching with Jo. She started right out
with value, which is fundamental to mixing and planning, and as a result, I left her studio that
first day with a painting of an apple that popped with life. Months later, I still am pleased with
that painting, and many more compositions that Jo has helped move my skills up to higher
levels. Jo is an accomplished water colorist in her own right, but she is also a pleasure to
work with being both a kind and a humorous person. As a student, I can say that Jo has
demonstrated her years of teaching experience and intuitive wisdom to know holistically when
to inform me or when to let me experience my own sense of artistry within the lesson. It is
this type of a learning environment has fit well for me.

I love that you share your watercolor journey with all of us. Your technique, step-by-step
instruction and most importantly, your positive attitude inspire me.

"I've really enjoyed the watercolors by Jo MacKenzie, and reading about her process,
which is to paint dark to light, the way we do in oil painting. So I bought her book, and
above is my first attempt at using her process . I like it! Bobbi Heath

Thank you Jo for producing your videos. I have forwarded them to friends. I struggle to paint.
You make it look easy. My goal is to try to not create a photographic image, but a painting. I
don’t know how to see the lights and darks like you do. Keep up the good work.

I love this book it is very clear and well written. It emphasizes all the right things. It can be used as a reference and a step by step guide to watercolor. I recommend this book to beginners and experienced painters because it emphasizes the ways to create success in a painting. Phyllis L.
