This is a painting of a cat with narration. It is my longest video so far but I think it shows the painting process pretty accurately.
Now my plea!........Please watch the video and and hit the subscribe button here. If you can ask a friend also that would be super exciting for me. I am trying to make my youtube channel grow so that I can begin phase two of my plan to have art that can "take us places". What I have learned so far: Painting and growing your organic reach takes time and kindness. It also means from time to time you have to ask for help and guess what? The world does not stop turning if you ask .

This video is about just the essentials. The minimum of art supplies I would need for a month on a desert island. I want to thank Nancy Johnson for asking the question and also a shout out to Ann Albright who is helping me with my glasses and the glare problem when I am recording.
What are your essentials? I am curious to know. I am here as your financial advisor ( run!) . No really. I am terrible with numbers but I am going to explain why an expensive brush is really a great deal. Unlike the shopping channel I will not promise this brush will change your life ...but it will help you see things a little differently.
Please watch the video and sign up for my Youtube channel here. What I have learned so far : Money and value are connected but only in terms of how valuable an item is to the buyer. If you are not a painter the price of this brush will sound as outrageous as the price of a designer handbag...but for a painter it is a tool of the trade and when you have the right tool for the job at hand you produce higher quality work. How do you know when a painting is done? We had a great discussion about this on my FB page . People shared their process and it helped me decide how to address the question in a video format.
If you have a "share" of how you know when a painting is done please let me know your thoughts . Also if you haven't done it yet sign up for my Youtube channel by hitting the subscribe button on the lower right hand side under the video. What I have learned so far : Everyone has a different process. Some people stop painting when they are 85% done. Some people go back and work on a painting years after it is done. Most people seemed to say there is a conversation that takes place between themselves and the work and that informs them of when to stop...and of course...once it sells...it is done and dusted! I don't think I have shared before that I started my art career painting birds. I used to work feather by feather. Things have changed! I have a family connection to birds. My family liked to bird watch and I have a brother who has written several books on the subject.
What I have learned so far: Just because you think you have covered a subject does not mean you can't circle back and go at it again. You are a in a different place each time you do this so the results will change and that is the fun part of being an artist. To use masking fluid or not is always a difficult choice for me. I want to keep my whites white but the globby fluid is hard to manage and this video shows how to cope with that.
What I have learned so far : For me ...don't use masking fluid. I think it works against me ...more than for me. But you can make up your own mind. Please sign up for my you tube channel here. NO, I am not announcing 3000 subscribers to my Youtube Channel. Which you can sign up for by clicking subscribe at the end of the video, and I hope you do. But I have had more than 3000 views of this short demo. . But I never give up on what the future might bring. This is my most popular video so far.
I am starting to sign people up for Spring Sessions of Watercolor Coaching. Maybe you will decide to join me in the studio or on line. We will be working on color value swap outs, using limited strokes and the use of color triads. What I have learned so far: Big goals are worth having. I will be starting to video longer lessons and hope to be able to video conference with more than one student at a time in the near future. Oh my goodness...if you can do it from a back road in Vermont you can do it from anywhere. Here is a short video about how to display your art. Lets get our art out of the drawers and off the floor and onto the walls where we can see and enjoy it. If you like this video please subscribe to my Youtube channel by clicking here. What I have learned so far:
In a garden it is good to plant things in clusters or collections. Usually odd numbers of 3's 5' or 9's. Art is the same way. If you have art from many different sources you have a collection and it probably can be "clumped or clustered" together. Have fun with your collection and enjoy it everyday. |
